Signs Your Boiler Needs Replacing
Not sure if it's time? Here are the most common signs that a replacement is the better option.
Frequent Breakdowns
If you're paying for repairs more than once a year, a new boiler will likely save you money in the long run.
Rising Energy Bills
Older boilers lose efficiency over time. A new A-rated boiler can cut your heating bills significantly.
Boiler is 10+ Years Old
Boilers over 10 years old are often running at 60–70% efficiency. Modern boilers run at 90%+.
Strange Noises
Banging, whistling, or gurgling from your boiler usually indicates internal component failure.
Uneven Heating
Some rooms cold while others are warm? Your boiler may no longer be powerful enough for your home.
Parts Hard to Find
If your boiler model has been discontinued, replacement parts become harder and more expensive to source.
Repair or Replace?
It's the classic dilemma. Nobody wants to spend money on a new boiler if they don't have to. But continuously patching up an old, inefficient model can cost you more in the long run.
As a general rule, if your boiler is over 10 years old and the repair bill is more than £400, it's usually more cost-effective to replace it. Here's why:
- Efficiency Gains: New A-rated boilers use up to 30% less gas to generate the same amount of heat.
- Future-Proofing: Older parts become obsolete and very expensive.
- Guaranteed Reliability: A new boiler comes with up to 12 years of manufacturer warranty - meaning zero repair bills for over a decade.

Boiler Replacement FAQs
How long does a boiler installation take?
A straightforward like-for-like boiler swap typically takes one day - usually between 4 to 6 hours. If we need to move the boiler to a new location or make significant pipework changes, it may take 1 to 2 days. We'll confirm the expected timescale when we provide your quote.
Are your engineers Gas Safe registered?
Yes, absolutely. Every Platinum Boilers engineer is Gas Safe registered, fully qualified, and regularly assessed to ensure they meet the highest industry standards. You can verify our registration at any time through the Gas Safe Register. Your safety is our top priority.

Can you help me choose the right boiler?

We'll explain the options clearly and give you all the information you need to make the right decision. There's never any pressure to buy.
What happens to my old boiler?
We take care of everything. Your old boiler is safely disconnected, removed from your property, and disposed of responsibly in line with environmental regulations. This is included in all our installation packages at no extra cost.
Will I need to be home during the installation?
We recommend that someone over 18 is present at the start and end of the installation, or for the full duration if you prefer. Our engineers will need access to the boiler location, the gas meter, and potentially your loft if the flue runs through it. We'll discuss all access requirements before the installation day.
