Not necessarily, but it's worth having it assessed. Most boilers are designed to last 10–15 years with annual servicing. After 15 years, efficiency drops noticeably. Older models may only be 60–70% efficient compared to 90%+ for a new A-rated boiler. If yours is still working but costing more to run or needing frequent repairs, replacing it usually makes better financial sense over the medium term. Warning signs of an unsafe boiler include a yellow or orange flame instead of a crisp blue one, dark staining or scorch marks around the boiler, a pilot light that frequently goes out, unusual smells when the boiler is running, and excessive condensation on windows. If you notice any of these signs, turn the boiler off, open windows for ventilation, and call a Gas Safe registered engineer immediately. Never attempt to inspect or repair a gas appliance yourself.
